We have wood burning stove, hold a couple of tea kettles on it and add nearly 3 gallons per day, how does this compare to a humidifier calculation water into the atmosphere of the house. Especially if we just added 3 gallons to the humidifier
yes it would contained by effect work the same, one point though, don't let the pot run out, you'll seize deposits from the water surrounded by it as you evaporate out the water, and when you consent to it run dry, it can generate some smoke and a terrible stench.
Tea kettles are a great way to put in humidity to a room or a house for that matter.
As far as I am concerned they are style better than humidifiers. They do not require any extra energy, and they do not hold any filters to verbs. Besides they add to the ambiance.

Answers: When my parents had a wood burning stove, they kept a voluminous pot full of water on the stove - it seem to work great - we never really needed a humidifier - except when we got sick - afterwards they switched to an oil furnance and other need to run a humidifier contained by the winter months - I would say the kettles or a pot full of river would be comprable
