Answers: It's definitely because of sanctuary reasons. Many years ago, the rule required shorter cords and forced a change surrounded by the building code to prevent electric countertop appliances from being placed too close to kitchen sinks. Code very soon requires electric outlets keep a minimum distance from the sink and, gee, that a moment ago happens to coincide near the length of the cords. New kitchens will enjoy many more outlets at the counter, and they will be any GFCI outlets or hooked to a GFCI circuit. Bottom line is, shorter cords hold on to appliances away from water, which can short electrical equipment. Old kitchens that haven't be upgraded will still have simply one or two outlets, which can be a problem with adjectives the appliances and the short cords.
