Yesterday was our town's community-wide garage mart. My next-door neighbor and neighbors contained by the two houses across the street were also have sales. I can relay you it wasn't worth the effort to set it up. People walk right past my public sale to get to the others. Now I own nice antiques, vintage glassware and other collectibles. The other people have handmade items and crafts or new looking merchandise, kid's toys and clothes. Why would ethnic group want to buy modern things when there are fine antiques to be have?
Answers: I'm having one and the same problem. I think at present most people want strange and practical merchandise. My aunt makes around $150 on weekends she have sales and she sell toiletries, home care products and bureau supplies. Antiques aren't popular now. People are have trouble paying household expenses, whey would they but antiques to put in a house they may hold to sell soon? But everyone desires toothpaste and deodorant. Also money isn't as "loose" as it was even several years ago. If you know you hold valuable items and price them so, relations ARE going to walk by and leader for possibly better bargains. Also if you hold continuous sales, the "locals" will integer "Been there - done that." The few you implied did stop to look be probably from out of town and had not see your sale formerly.
Most young culture these days don't hold an appreciation for the older styles. They are looking for sleek, modern designs. Also, if they know anything give or take a few antiques and good collectibles, they also know they are generally priced higher, even at garage sale. Some are on limited budgets, and enjoy to get the most for their money. That one said, if you can hold your own separate sale, do so, and ballyhoo it as a "living estate sale". Dealers and collectors usually know you will have elder items, and will be willing to foot more for them. Or, you could contact a local antique store to see if they would be willing to purchase your items.
