i have thousands of ants gather at the center seam in my garage everyday. its not clear where on earth they come from, but strangely they all die by the shutting down of the day. we sweep them out and after the next morning there are thousands more. we own never applied any bug killer. i am glad they are not entering the house, but i am concerned in the region of why they die everyday with no intervention. can anyone lend a hand?
Answers: What you have is an ant graveyard, minus the headstone and flowers.
Nobody is exactly sure why ants choose one spot over another, but the fact that you're seeing so various dead ants could indicate that:
1. You have a huge colony somewhere who's ants are reproducing so promptly they have plenty dying of old age, disease or injury to wreak such a huge pile.
2. The species of ant you're seeing is not the dominant colony but is being destroyed by another colony, and they're merely taking away their victims.
Either channel, once the ants have chosen a place to dump their comatose, they'll keep using it until you receive a change... the best man: Kill all the ants on your property.
When contained by doubt, ask a pest control professional to come over and give you a free explanation of what they see and a bid for keeping the ants out.
There's probably grease or something toxic to them in that crack.
