Which will run up my electric/gas bill more? House electric fire or space furnace? I always use my space electric fire because I feel close to...

I always use my space electric fire because I feel close to it's a waste to roast up the entire house (not THAT big) when it's just me. But I hear that space heaters take up alot of enthusiasm. Anyone know?
Answers:    We have found that using an electric electric fire has save us a TON of money so far. We have a 1500 sq ft tri horizontal house and this is our first winter here. We are paying the same amount we did when we lived surrounded by a 500 sq ft apartment last year! Both our gas and electric bills combined for December be only $150, and this is near having Christmas lights going as economically. (Note: our furnace, water heating system, and dryer are gas and everything else is electric)

This is what we do. We set the space heater implicit the thermostat (on the main level). Heat rises to the upper stratum and when we are in the lower even we can switch on another smaller heater if we draw from cold (we only monitor TV down there).
This technique would work for you if you place the heater implicit the thermostat so it "tricks" it into thinking it is warmer surrounded by the whole house. The oven stays on high, even if it is stove than you like surrounded by that area because the temperature will circulate around to the other parts of the house. We keep the thermostat down to 64 deg. so it won't run as much.

Also, if you can, close past its sell-by date vents and/or doors to rooms or areas you don't frequently use such as guest bedrooms or storage areas.

For safekeeping purposes, only run your space radiator when you are home and keep it away from children, pets and flammable materials. I hold cool to the touch heaters so that even if I bump into it I won't get burned. Also, look at getting one that will automatically shut bad if it tips over.
We live in a small house also. The furnace go out and the landlord didn't hold the money to replace. So, we got 3 of the small rectangular space heaters. They steam the whole house freshly fine. I really thought we'd be cold. Actually, alot of times, we have to shut one or two past its sell-by date alot because it get's too hot. Anyways, since we are TOTAL electric here, our highest bill have only be 220. And that's when it was really cold here. Plus the dryer, cooking, lights, everything! I conjecture that's a good deal. Most empire are paying more than that just for gas for the month. Let alone their electric. Hope this help.
