An evaporated aircondioner will be cheaper to buy, but a reverse cycle refrigerated one can also be used to thaw out the house.
Would there be much difference as far as value, cost to run, maintenance or any other consideration to assistance choose between the two systems?
Answers: depends where you live, evaporative is not drastically good within high humidity areas. It is a different type of cool to chilled where it pushes the upper air out of the house, you have to own a window or door overt to let the heavens out
evaporative is cheaper to run, when you run duel heat and cool through indistinguishable ducting they have to travel for a happy environment on ducting size as one is more efficient on big ducts the other on smaller ones (cant remember which way around) you lose effieciency straight away becasue of this
evaporative doesnt work will within sydney, but works extremely well contained by canberra, go to www.bom.gov.au and enjoy a look at the humidty readings for sydney and compare to perth
Do you live surrounded by SW US? Or maybe Nevada or CA within dessert area? Or where on earth humidity is like 10-20-30%max...a evaporative cooler will work and amass $$ .Anywhere with humidity above 40-50% and it sucks. I lived within SW US for 6 years and it worked OK..if you keep it verbs and change pad....but house smells a little musty. A few times a year humidity go up 40% or so and it does not cool. There you have it and the trade offs
