I am growing tomatoes for the first time, and they are just beginning to suffer fruit. However, just before they are geared up to pick, they are splitting open. We have have extremely hot weather (over 100) for about a week. Could this be the cause? The plants themselves are particularly healthy looking.

i think u r right hot weather can be a big cause.try to sea Ur plants more like 2 times a day and after when the tomatoes r big enough pick them no mater they r too much green ,they will be red in few days after picking ,cos tomato is a fruit which keep riping when its even picked early.
So may be this will help

Answers:    Irregular watering or too much fertilizer. The inside is growing faster than the skin causing the splitting. Don' hose them so much. If you have been using fertilizer...cut backbone on it.
