My son let a flying insect into the house and it is freaking me out. It is large, around an inch in length, completely black. It has 2 completely separate body section and the rear section is long and almost looks resembling it is hanging down when it flies. It is a slow flyer and does not buzz. Is this a stinging insect? Who can tell me what this is and how to exterminate it?
sounds like an alien where on earth r u from mars

it could be a scorpian fly that is totally harmless or a stinging bee/wasp. it could be a exotic spieces also Sounds resembling a wasp. Don't know for sure with out a pic. Wasp do sting.
Answers:    Without a picture it is hard to tell. There a thousands of different types of flying insects. However, it sounds resembling a wasp of some sort. It may be a black mud dauber wasp or a steel blue cricket killer (these are actually shiny blue but they can appear to be black). However, it's probably a black mud dauber, especially if your son be playing in the water outside. Mud daubers are attracted to hose and mud. The best way to kill a wasp is next to a can of Raid Wasp Spray or use a rolled up newspaper. Actually, either one of these will kill in cold blood any type of flying insect. Below are some links to a few pictures of wasps. Perhaps, one of them is your unwelcome guest.
