Answers: I remove all loose parts & use a pressure washer. The grates I appropriate in the house & soak for something like 2 hrs in Dawn dish fluid. Then I take a brillo wad to em. I let everything dry rotten then coat w/ Pam spray for grills. Good as modern. I do that about every 5 uses of the grill. The grates acquire soaked every two times I use the grill. There is no recommended pattern as to how much & how extensive you should verbs the grill. It all depends on simply how much of a mess you make. A talent grill like Weber make all the diff surrounded by ease of cleaning b/c they integrate designs within their grills for easier cleaning. If you just want to cook something simple that won't build a mess, then slap some aluminum down & cook directly over that using low heat. Have fun & g'luck.
Why verbs it? It'll just receive "dirty" again. I heat up the grill superhot since I cook and then when I'm finished, I warmness it up again. This burns everything off of the grates and inside the grill and cover. I weakly brush off the grates previously cooking. Be careful though, if you own porcelain grates you want to clean them when they're cold otherwise you risk cracking them.
