What is a well brought-up brand of cutlery? I am looking to start a good collection, but I don't know...
I am looking to start a good collection, but I don't know what a well-mannered price or brand would be. I also cant afford to spend a ton of money. Right now I enjoy a Farberware Chefs knife and pare knife. I dont know if its me or not, but it doesnt really dice, chop etc. that economically. Also, I read stainless steel isnt very apt, and I think explicitly what they are.
Help! Any help is appreciated!
Two of our favorite knives are Chicago Cutlery. We've have them for ages. They sharpen nicely and hold an threshold for a very long time.
Stainless steel can be exceedingly good, but sometimes you want a well brought-up carbon steel knife for some job because they sharpen easier.
Henckels is very suitable; I have one of their filet knife and a bread knife from them. I also own a great set of steak knives and a santoku that I get made by Chicago Cutlery. Love them. Purchased separately of course.
A biddable knife collection take years to build and you don't want to go for inexpensive -- it's not unreasonable to spend $50 or more for a spear that is going to final through 50+ years or more of use, even when it's a utility knife.
Your knife should be sharpened before using. I use a sharpening steel back doing any food prep work (dicing, chopping, etc.). I also take my knife to a professional sharpener once every 2 years. It's worth the time and expense.
Answers: I own a set of Chicago Cutlery and am especially satisfied near them. the initial cost can be high unless you buy them around Christmas when they shift on sale, but they ending a lifetime and hold an edge better than any other axe I own. You also have the route of buying one knife at a time until your set is complete.
