...that looks like a tripod camera? I don't know, this may come across like a silly cross-question, but I need to know. You usually see construction workers standing over them, a la taking a photo beside a tripod camera, except it's used for construction purposes rather than taking photos, haha.

Modern transits often use a laser truss for even better precision, and can measure distance as economically as angle.
