What do farmers use to maintain the wet from seep into the ground surrounded by hose down holes for their cattle?

Answers:    We call them "stock ponds" within Texas..usually we dig down to a covering called caliche ..for areas that do not hold caliche in the layer they bring it in after the pond/stock cistern is dug and have roughly speaking a foot of it compacted in as the bottom of the pond..it is clay and dense and the hose down does not soak through it..
