What be that giant sickly jacket?!? I was merely outside and was trimming rear legs some ivy off...

I was merely outside and was trimming rear legs some ivy off my house. I be being particular because I know wasps and yellow jacket like to nest contained by it.

At one point I saw a large yellow/black article fly out (and fly away) and I thought "was that a humming bird?" About 10 minuetes subsequent another came out of the ivy and this time I get a better look at it because it was surrounded by attack mode. I was the biggest wan jacket I've ever seen. It be 2 - 3 inches long! I took a swat at it to try to knock it down (I was going to take in for questioning or kill this sucker) but I missed and it flew away. I settled they're a little too big and I'm going to hang about for a cooler day to finish my undertaking.

Has anyone ever seen something approaching this...my wife doesn't believe me and I can't find anything using a web rummage. My only other hope for proof is to walk back out and work as bait. =)
Does anyone hold a glass-top stove?
Answers:    It was probably a "Queen" Brown Hornet.They look similar to a Yellow Jacket but are MUCH BIGGER!
