What Axe to use to split logs? Hi, I need to bring back an axe to be used for splitting...

Hi,
I need to bring back an axe to be used for splitting logs for firewood, and also chopping larger logs down into firewood size chunks.

From a look around the shops I think I involve something 2.5lb sized, but these tend to be "felling axes" which I guess are best suited to...very well....felling. I've found one for beneath a tenner too.

The smaller ones don't seem big ample to really get the brief done - will I be OK using a felling one - an axe is an axe is an axe?

gratitude for the guidance - Rob
Answers:    The wedges and log grenades are OK, but a fell axe will do most logs, if your technique is good. What you do is cut yourself a chopping block nearly 2 feet glorious and as big round as you can. Stand the log to be spliut on it and hold the handle of the fell axe with your gone hand lower than your right (if you are right handed). Make sure no-one is inwardly 2 lengths of the manipulate of you, and swing it up behind you so that as it comes down ont tohe log, your right appendage (which started up near the lead, slides down to be next to your not here.
If the log is straight grained it will split. If it has knot it wont, but the axe should stick into the top of it. Here is the bit that is really effactive. What you call for to do is lift the axe, log and adjectives and repeat the monoeuvre but so that the back of the axe herald hits the chopping block, and the weight of the log drives itself down ontot he axe and splits it. really pleasing and once you get the knack particularly straigthtforward. Alays wear leather boots preferably with toecaps (VAT free from screwfix or toolstation when you buy your axe).
The flawless thing in the region of logs is that they warm you masses times over. Once when you cut down the tree, cut and split them carry them surrounded by and finally burn them. Enjoy.
You have practically answered your own give somebody the third degree. An axe(big) is what you need not a chopper(small).
