Have just bought a investigational house and have never have a vegie garden before, the ground is so strong though. Do i buy new dirt or try and work next to what i've got, should i basically start digging the earth up and hope for the best. I really involve help
Answers: I have a situation like that when I bought the house I in a minute live in. The soil be like concrete. I get a roto tiller and tilled down about six inches, breaking up the clogs as small as I could. Then I worked contained by a couple of bags of spaghnum peat moss into the bed. I didn't replace the soil. I added the peat moss to it. The advantages I found over other medium were: 1- it make the soil in the plot profoundly easier to work with. 2- I have a lot smaller amount water run bad than when I used only soil. Peat moss is great for holding dampen. It's definitely a benefit if you own a dry period surrounded by the Summer. 3- It's easier for the plant roots to push down.
I used about 12 cu ft of peat moss initially surrounded by my garden of 300 sq ft. After that I added one or two bags a year to replace the natural matter that have decayed. You might want to check beside your local garden center in May when they capture really going. Check to see if they have any broken stacks in the vertebrae that they would sell at a discount. They usually can't dispatch them back.
