Why do they do it? Who was the idiot who thought this would be a well-mannered idea?

I can`t bear those stupid lumpy things. It looks awful and all sorts of crud get stuck to the ceiling.

Is there a point to them?

Oh, and what the heck are they call, anyway?
Answers:    Acoustic Ceilings (More commonly known as Popcorn Ceilings) are indeed repugnant, but they do serve a purpose. The point in this style of ceiling is to provide better acoustics contained by a room. A wall that has multiple level will deaden nouns a bit less. Take the inside of a guitar for example, the edges are cut and pieces of angled wood cover the bottom and top walls. This is done to preserve sound resonance for as long as possible. The idiot that thought of it is unknown specifically, but the style be introduced in America as rash as 1931.

I hope this helps.
Popcorn ceiling..I agree...I hate them too
