Well, I grew up in the country and I know a little remedy that individuals would sometimes use. It is a little extreme and I estimate it is against the law today, though. They would spray creosote below their houses. I mean a gooey layer of the stuff. They would soak the ground below their houses. Of course, they had pier and spoke foundations so there be this crawlspace under nearby. It would keep the termites away and slay any that are infesting already. It also stunk bad. Creosote is what they soak railroad ties within that makes them later a long time. It also gives them that specific smell. Also, creosote is a carcinogen. Probably why it is illegal to do that anymore.
