what would you do?
Answers:    You rented a machine that was perceptibly supposed to work and it didn't. I'm sure you have witnesses to the fact that it didn't work. You should unquestionably get your money back, and you should also be reimbursed by the rental company for the cost of wash up all the hydraulic fluid. No reasonable creature would expect you to pay the cost of cleanup from a defective machine. If they impart you any trouble, take them to small claims court.
Sue the rental place in small claims court.
