Permanent musty smell on husbands elder clothes...? My husband prior to us meeting lived contained by his parents...
My husband prior to us meeting lived contained by his parents home and his room was their crypt. Their house is in NY and have dogs and mold. Any clothes that used to be in that home own this permanent musty smell. I hold washed these surrounded by color safe bleaches, detergents, and I've even bought little malodorous dresser drawer sacks to try to give a hand them not have this smell. The smell is musty and it make my Asthma flare up and I sneeze and begin to itch if I even touch these things. It's be 3 years now and these clothes still hold this smell as if they've never been wash. I bought him a new wardrobe a few years fund so he no longer wears them but I am wondering what this is and if these can be salvage?
If you live where on earth you can put them out on a line, contained by fresh air and sunshine, that should do the trick.
Go to home depot or lowes and purchase some cedar wood that is made specifically for the purpose you enjoy.
If it is in hangup clothes, you can find sheets of cedar plywood to panel the closet - and that will keep moths out also.
Answers: I would trash them. You can buy a world of used or new clothing from goodwill for a short time more than the detergent price.
