Answers: I have be monitoring my gas, electric and water meters every month for a year in a minute and can say that the biggest use of joie de vivre is for space heating. So tip one is concentrate on that first by:-
1) stop adjectives drafts
2) insulate - roof, walls, double glaze window, floors
3) turn the temperature down - even 1C make a measurable difference
4) only bake the spaces you are living in to a comfortable plane and economise in the smaller amount used areas
5) fit a programmable thermostat to change the temperature during the day - and other make sure it's rotten when you are out
The next big user of electricity within those long winter nights is lighting. Fitting low dynamism bulbs makes a fantastic difference
After that, for more common year round savings don't leav stuff on standby. I own fitted time controlled switched to many of my appliances which turn them right rotten over night. The reserves do add up - for instance turning my WiFi Router and modem rotten overnight saves over lb20 per year alone.
Leaving the clock going permenantly on my oven costs me 0.7 p per hour = lb63 per year!! Turning stale when not in use save a packet over time.
Finally, I suggest buying a monitoring device for your electricity useage is a very obedient way to carry a handle on what's going on contained by your house. These can vary within cost from lb5 to lb50 but are well worth the initial investment when you discover where on earth you are throwing your pounds away.
