Mud Burrow Holes within backyard? I live in southern Virginia, and I own big mud burrow...

I live in southern Virginia, and I own big mud burrow holes in my backyard, adjectives over the place on a muddy lower section that stays pretty moist. I'm not sure what variety of animal this is - insect, snake, rodent? I thought they were mud daubers, but I looked at pictures online, and they don't spawn burrows in the ground similar to I have. These burrows are formed tall- next to the holes begining above the ground, almost like little teepees. You can crush them next to your feet. We also own some holes that begin right at the ground, which make me think adjectives the holes form an underground path. If you know what this is, or how I can bring rid of this, please let me know! The hole opening are a little larger than the size of a quarter, and some larger than that. THANKS!
Answers:    Sounds close to mud bugs, crawdads, crayfish, or what every you want to call them. Look similar to little lobsters. Get a shovel and dig one up.
