We seem to enjoy loads of small black flies (or 'thrips' as my elderly parent calls them). They are concentrated surrounded by the kitchen and bathroom. I noticed a few within the pub we had lunch surrounded by too, and I don't think they get there contained by my handbag! We keep tropical fish so nouns borne sprays are out of the question. Anyone get any idea how to carry rid of them?
Answers:    I think they are handrail flies, I'm not sure of their real christen . But lots of bars suffer from this problem. They breed or hatch out surrounded by standing water. You may own puddles of water within hard to find places, underneath the cooker , fridge etc..You have to find the source, as they wont step away until you have found their breeding ground.
YES!!! We hold loads of the little beggers in our kitchen. So much so , that we enjoy let a spider live contained by the kitchen. We named it Weelob, and it's be eating seriously of the little black flies.
