Keeping hens!? I'll live in an apartment on the 4th floor of a building...
I'll live in an apartment on the 4th floor of a building specifically now underneath construction (it will have 8 floors). There are a few trees around, and a river. I'll similar to to buy 6-8 hens and keep them walking around freely, outside. Is it ample to feed them 2-3 times to save them in the place, or they will meander to nowhere anyway? What are other alternatives (except keeping them inside 7/24)?
Answers: Agreed. This is not a good model at all. Especially when living contained by the city you must take extra preventative measures to ensure their sanctuary. I saw a post with adjectives of the predators that will prey on the hens, but I'd also like to include dogs. DOGS! If given the chance they will chase chickens for sure. More than expected it won't just be a chase. plentiful people will find them to be fairly annoying. I don't think that you can hang on to them safe.
Trust me when I explain to you that you do not want to keep them inside. I own two chickens. I kept them inside for the first 48 hours while the finishing touches were put on their outdoor birdcage. I had them surrounded by a large dog pen for about two hours. In that two hours I have to clean the dog round up three times! It's not fair to hold them walking in their poo. I later converted my office into a chicken room. I have to pull out adjectives of the furniture I didn't want them to roost on a,d cover the entire room with dissertation. It was a ton of work for a 48 conditional situation. Chickens poo a lot. I allow my chickens to run around for hours on a daily basis in my privacy fenced patio. Since they are very friendly they come to the posterior patio and and will sway around the door asking for treats. I never feed them on the square, but they know that's where I come out. So every daylight I have to verbs the patio. They will do this to a neighbor's porch if a neighbor fed them. Then the neighbor could find angry and "remove" the chickens.
Are you even allowed to keep hens when you live contained by an apartment? I don't know if the other tenants would approve of free-ranging hens around their building. Perhaps you should ask first. If it is allowed, next feeding them surrounded by the same place for a few days should be ample to keep them coming backbone.
