I have the tulips still nearby that have died. Their head are cut off. But I'm sick of the revolting long stems. I want to clear everything and make room for some exotic stuff. Is that ok to just cut down their stems?
Answers:    Cut everything down to the ground and you can any dig up the bulbs and store these contained by a cool place or leave them contained by the ground so that they can come back subsequent spring.
No, the Tulips need to be contained by situ until they have stored adequate energy to construct next years flowers. If you verbs them up you will run the risk of having blind bulbs contained by future. better to resign from them in situ for at tiniest until the leaves die down, then verbs them up and store in a airy place.
Why not plant a companion plant, ground cover that Will camouflage the tulips until they have died down and are in position to lift?
