My current slab has settled in the region of 8" and I want the new porch to be about 6" above ground rank. What prep do I need to do?
Answers:    You can put slag sand resting on existing slab, compact well, after place the new pavers over slag. Leave the slag sand base 2 3/8 inches (or solidity of your pavers) lower than desired height of spanking new patio.
Cover the slab beside yellow bulders sand and sea it well, after a daytime run a compacter over it. set the level you want beside a brick and then set a string splash up over it. run the brick under down the string line so you own a brick wide string in the sand at the right smooth. repeat that and then using a 'straight edge' (usually a length of boxed aluminium) screed sour excess sand.

You get a much prettier balcony if you lay four bricks in the crux and lay circular lines radiating out from that. so that the bricks have a circular guide and leave corners that you can plant into. you'll receive more gaps between the bricks that track which can be filled by sweeping screen gravel into them.
