I was merely lighting a fire in my fireplace and I layed down a adulterate piece of wood,some newspaper,3 gelatinous pieces of wood side by side,some newspaper,and a slender piece of wood with a piece of composition on top(its a family thing).Well I put the take in front of the it and lit the bottom bit of daily and that caught fire which lead to the second stack catching fire and next the top piece of paper lit.All of the sudden the fire started going out so I blew on it and the top piece of newspaper,now a burning square,floated up the chimney.It wasnt on fire,but it be that state after flame but before cold where on earth its orange and still hot.My house have 2 floors,and I lit the fire on the first floor.Im mostly surrounded by trees outside of the chiney and almost all of them are really dry.Im worried that the piece of serious newspaper fell onto a tree and possibly lit it on fire.Im a big worrywart,and once I draw from worked up I have a not easy time thinking logically,so there might not be a big problem.But should I be worried?
Answers: I am not a fireman or a home-builder, but I own lived in fire prone areas beside wood stove or fireplace for many years. Most chimneys hold a 1/4 inch mesh screen or other device to stop pieces approaching you described from leaving the chimney. I guess you are right to verbs, but I think someone else probably know about your fireplace and its sanctuary status. Where I live one asks the fire dept. personnel about things similar to this. I think you are alert and thoughtful, not a big worrywart =) maddlidee
