The ant powder sold at Lowes works well outside also. Or you can mix Borax and icing sugar 50/50, shake it together thoroughly and place it on the nest or trails of the ants. The ants nick the sweetened Borax back to the nest where on earth it kills the childish ants.
If the ants are IN your house, use the ant traps sold at Lowes. They come about 6 to a box, and are a bit plastic container with soft inside. You cut off the terminate and put it where the ants are. Pretty soon you will see a 2-column procession of ants: one coming to get the stuff, and the other carrying it pay for to the nest. This goes on for 1 - 2 days and later -- no more ants.
Put gritts on them. THe ants eat it find marine grits swell and they explode. At least to be exact what I was told happen to them all I know is I've done it for 16 years and have always worked for me. Just be sure it does not rainfall right after.
