You do not put nitrogen on potatoes or other root crops as someone mwentioned here..it is the perfect no no..Root crops require phospherous and pottasium..they detest nitrogen as All purpose miracle grow is mostly...You will end up next to all leaves and no tubers and what do form..will be skinnier than radishes from the nitrogen... Here are a few links about this and pictures of my garden..I gow veggies 12 months out of the year and raised on a arable farm..You will ruin your potatoe crop with miracle grow!..

Potatoes DO similar to nitrogen. Potatoes are rich in protein. Protein is made of amino acids. Amino acids are made of... you guessed it. Nitrogen.

The function why you need it is because a potato tuber is not a root, but an underground stem. Stems want nitrogen, roots need phosphoprus and potassium.
Answers:    Potatoes like nitrogen, so frequent MiracleGro applications are okay. I would suggest every 7-14 days. If you do not mind putting on something else, I would budge with straight N or a fertiler beside a high N concentration (the first number of the three). These can be found at your local garden center.

Also, keep hold of in mind that potatoes pinch up 90-95% of all their nutrients contained by the first 80 days after planting. This is because the 'hooks' on the roots (the cells which will form tubers) are set by consequently. If you want to apply something that will help after the first 80 days (i.e. during flowering), later use a weak fertilizer beside a Calcium supplement. The calcium will help near the development of the skin on the potato, prevent tuber diseases, and oblige the potatoes store better after harvest.
