How do I start a gas fireplace? Ok, I know how to start fires...lol...but I never had a gas...

Ok, I know how to start fires...lol...but I never had a gas fire place. I basically don't wanna fill my house up near smoke, so I want to do it right the first time. What are the steps to starting the gas fireplace. I got the right wood (my innkeeper supplies the wood).
To let you know, theres the little knob on the front to start the shoot door in the chimney, and theres a knob on the side at the bottom. I guess thats the gas. Then theres a lightswitch resembling directly on the side of the fireplace also.

Please help...I get some nice lookin ladies with big booties coming over..lol (i know that wasnt neccessary, but I obligation that fire...lol)
Answers:    You want to make sure the damper is interested so the smoke will go up the chimney. Turn on the gas briefly to purge any nouns in the string because it will blow out the match. When you smell the gas, shut it rotten for about ten minutes. Now that the lines are full of gas because the heavens has be purged, go ahead and pale a match after turn the gas on slightly. Once you have a flame, you can turn it up as large as you want.

The light switch may be to motivate a blower to force the heated air to circulate through your home.
