Im packing my books into cardboard boxes amd taping top and bottom, next storing in a garage for around 6 months. Should I spray insect repellent on the boxes, or line them next to plastic? All suggestions gratefully accepted.
I was doing some research into wheat moths and their mites a few weeks ago and within doing so I read that bay leaves will deter silverfish.
Cockroaches probably won't be much of a problem if there's nought for them to eat.
Spraying the boxes next to a saturated solution of dampen and Borax will keep closely of insects away, and keep mold from developing as capably. It's also a fire retardant.
Just let the boxes dry out beforehand you put the bay leaves, a touch more borax powder, and books inside. :-)
Try to keep paperwork elevated off the concrete slab, since moisture can wick up through the concrete and create problems.
Can you bring your house fumigated?
I would use plastic boxes.
Cockroaches love cardboard. They lay eggs in it.
They also love yelp chips.
And toothbrushes!
Answers: I suggest using one of those plastic totes beside a latching lid. Some of them even say they are made to hang on to out silverfish and that kind of stuff. Otherwise..I would wrap them surrounded by plastic and try to keep them out of humid places.
use plastic totes..because besides roaches an silver fish you will also acquire spiders they love cardboard
