Getting rid of Hummingbirds? We are having a hummingbird problem - they are trying to...

We are having a hummingbird problem - they are trying to build nests around the top of my shutters and astern my porch light and they bring in a huge mess (I've already had to purify my porch down twice to clean up their mess). Any suggestions on how to discourage them from building their nest on my porch?
Don't know where on earth you live, but it is against the law, and not extremely nice, to harass any animal i.e. nesting. Surely the right to life should prevail over a little inconvenience you may suffer.

You can seize 'spike strips' to discourage birds from landing on your shutters, etc (cities use them alot). Not very attractive tho. I'd try Agway or Tractor Supply.
I'd look around for the sense why they like your house so much - is in attendance a food source nearby? Honeysuckle, red flowers, trumpet vines, neighbors near feeders. Eliminate the food source, they may go away.
Perhaps your house is a color that stays heat up at night? (dark brown maybe). We have problems with wasps building nests on our muddy brown deck - we painted it light gray, no more problem.
Answers:    Well, first of adjectives, don't do anything to hurt them.

You could try sticking something in the places they build nests so that they can't build nests.

Or conceivably stick something in your courtyard for them to build nests on.

I'm not really sure. I have never hear a humming bird complaint before.
