It matches the elemental description of a hubbard squash in jargon of shape (kind of pear-shaped, but more tapered) and color (light blue-green, with some yellow-orange at the top); but it's smaller than a hubbard and the skin is smooth. Any concept what it can be or links to photos would be appreciated. I've looked and looked online, but can't find a match.
Answers:    Try Ya hoo ing 'Garden Seed Catalogs' I only just di and got page of catalogs to chose from but only you will make out what you are looking for, it is not a common one....
First of adjectives, where did you attain the seed from? It doesn't nouns like anything I own ever grown or eaten. It could be that the Mamma plant be a blue Hubbard and who knows who the Daddy be. Squashes own a lot of kinfolk surrounded by the same kinfolk. I think in that was some sips of wine, nice thaw fire and some sparks flying, if you know what I mean. It sounds resembling baby Tabatha is a partially breed, caused by cross pollination. If it looks abundantly like a blue Hubbard, my guess is, it will soft spot like one. Mother Nature is what cause Seed Companies to not guarantee each nut. All it take is one little drop of you know what, carried by bees and dropped you know where on earth, to get you know what!!!
