I have hear all of my enthusiasm that you shouldn't touch the leaves of an African Violet. Since they are "hairy" - it's not good for them and it could possibly take out them (over time, I'm guessing).

Now that I have one and am looking up some things on the subject of the care, I do not see this mentioned ANYWHERE. I realize most general public don't go around rubbing plant leaves, but since I enjoy this on my desk at work, people come across to want to touch it for whatever grounds.

Is it true that it's not good and could annihilate the plant? Or is this completely false?
Answers:    When watering, do not get dampen on the leaves!
That is more important than rather "feel!"
If possible, sea from the bottom!
Fill a saucer and set in plant!
Add dampen to saucer until it takes up no more!

Pretty plant! Good luck!
An African Violet's leaves will not be dog-eared it you touch them gently. The leaves will be shabby if you get cold wet on them. Water the plant from the bottom of the pot by putting water contained by the drainage dish. You can also put some pretty pebbles in the drainage dish to elevate it from sitting within the water. The Afican Violet like the humidity from the water surrounded by the drainage dish. When watering from the top use warm marine and make sure the hose is hitting the soil only. No splashing.
