Different outside AC component than inside? I just moved surrounded by a new apartment and the inside...

I just moved surrounded by a new apartment and the inside component is really cheap and makes closely of noise (plastic parts vibrate etc). I don't want to buy the inside and outside unit (due to the costs) so can I only just replace the inside unit (different company) which have the same BTU's or does it obligation to be the same company? Help! ;) Thanks!
