Answers:    I don't know why it works but hang some plastic heaps ( like sandwich bags or ziplocks) next to water in them to hand the patio or area you are.
You can also buy or clear a fly-catcher. ANy jar or bowl. You put raw meat in it. Then put a funnel into it. THe flies can climb down the funnel to enter. They try to fly out but they can't fly straight up and they hold to go straight up to get out of the funnel. This doesn't stop the flies from bothering you but it make you feel better to see them dying by the hundreds.
THen winter comes and the flies are gone. But so is the nice weather.
