Okay, i am 14 years old and my mom moved out me a job to do-cut the rhubarb. i own no idea how to do it. she told me to cut bad the leaf and to cut it into 1/2 inch pieces. BUT do i cut sour the end of it (the closing opposite to the leaf) its approaching round and i dont know if i should cut it off or not!! please sustain! :-)
Answers: You cut the stalks down near the end of the plant. The reason you remove the leaves is that they contain a toxic Oxalic Acid, which can destroy you if you eat it. The stalks don't hold the acid within them, only the leaves do.
Early pioneers and even into the untimely 1900's, they used to use the leaves to polish copper and other metal cookware because of the oxalic acid contained surrounded by them.
Once you have the stalks removed, you usually cut them into around 1/2 " to 1" pieces and put them into a plastic bag for freezing.
Yes, cut stale the leaves just underneath them and cut of the root end as capably. Then cut them in 1/2 surrounded by pieces from just below the leaves and down.
