Bathrooms: depends on the dorm but most own one bathroom for 3 rooms.
kitchen: here it's one kitchen for the whole dorm (i don't move about there :p )
carpeting: yes
desks: primary yes
It's no problem, if you have the money it's better to be surrounded by a social dorm but if your a little tight within that area next go cheap and it's not a terrifying as you think...lol.
The roommate (whoever it is) is usually kindly about things but at hand are growing pains such as: turning the radio too loud when they try to sleep or coming in and out at abnormal times of night.
From my college days:
Usually 2 to a room. Bathrooms are uaually on the floor, not surrounded by the room. kitchen area on the floor, ours have tile floors - easy to verbs for cleaning staff, two closets, two desks, 2 beds.
I suppose here are some dorms where you can acquire single occupancy for a sophisticated rate.
