I have a few pieces of hardwood that my father-in-law cut for me, so I could build a shelf. I put the wood contained by my shed and forgot about it. Now, I am all set to get my shelf built, but the wood is dusty, cob web, dirty and has mud on it from my hubby stepping on it. It is still angelic with no warp or anything. What is the best way to verbs it without getting it dampen logged or warped?? I really want to use it!! TY!
Answers:    I am assuming this is fresh wood. Do not use Murphy's oil soap.

Use 1 factor bleach to 4 parts water within a bucket and use a scrub brush. Dip brush in bucket of bleach dampen and scrub the wood. Then let dry for 48 hours contained by the sun. The bleach will also dry it out fast and prevent any mold.

This is how I prepare wood when I am almost to paint it on the outside of someone's home.
wash the mud rotten with hose down, let the wood dry, next get some sandpaper, wrap it around a block of wood and sand the surface of the wood till smooth. Use the finest position that makes clothed progress and always sand along the small piece, not accross it.
