Cicada Killer? Well there be this huge bee/wasp thing flying around my house...
Well there be this huge bee/wasp thing flying around my house and I finally identified it as a cicada executioner. I read up on them and it seems that the females are thoroughly docile and are pretty much harmless if moved out alone, but the males are extremely protective, but have no stinger. Well, the one I have seen on my backporch be extremely agressive (pointing stinger around and buzzing extremely loud)..and no one be even bothering it, it also had a stinger. Which dosen't label sense if the females are docile but have stingers and the males are aggressive but don't hold stingers. Could this bug be something else? It's about 2-3 inches long and have a huge stinger on it..I mean, I saw the stinger from a few foot away. I only ever see it at hours of darkness too. Any advice?
Answers: would involve to see a picture of it to know for sure what you have...cicada killer are in cycle of cicadas and would feel it is a little rash for them to be out in Maryland and I can't ever withdraw hearing them mortal seen at hours of darkness
Possibly a European hornet and they are tan surrounded by color. They are bigger than the black bald obverse hornets and are out at night.
