The effects of caffeine on plants have be studied in some detail by plant researchers. Depending on the dosage, caffeine lead to abonormalities in plant nouns. Particularly, cells do not divide within the normal bearing if they are "caffeinated". People are still trying to understand how the cell division process is regulated by caffeine.
At the University of Illinois, they did some work on the effect of
caffeine on the calcium metabolism of plant cell. Calcium acts as messenger within plant and animal cells, conveying different types of information to different parts of the cell. They found that caffeine increases the activity of calcium within plant cells .
