im downstairs and for awhile ive been audible range banging and footsteps upstairs , i hear metal thrown about too, what should i do , i might b oferreacting but im not sureif ishould step upstairs , i have a sharp gouge and some air freasher subsequent to me to help should i shift upstairs

If you are contained by Texas you are free to use the knife to attack anyone trespassing on your property. But surrounded by other state that is prohibited unless the criminal tries to attack you.
I would simply
A) take pictures of the criminal while shouting "help" consequently
B) run over to a neighbor's house
C) call the Police
near the pictures they'll have adjectives the evidence they need
BTW, I did one and the same thing when I be held up at gunpoint (only I ran up to a neighbors and shouted oblige before I took pictures) and it worked splendidly the guy dropped his gun and my stolen laptop and ran similar to hell :-)
