Algae problem w/ swimming pool? We are having an algae problem beside our above ground swimming...

We are having an algae problem beside our above ground swimming pool. When we tried to open it, the sea was green; we talk to a local pool supplier and they said to drain it to about 2' and "rake" out the leaves that be in the bottom and verbs the liner. After we refilled it and put within algaecide, we vacuumed and backwashed the filter. We then applied chlorine but it is still green. We own an element filter and it is constantly getting clogged near the algae. We had this exact same problem end year and never got it cleaned out - so didn't procure to use it at all closing year. we were told that possibly if we switch to a sand filter we would have better luck. Does anyone hold any opinions on what else we can do. Should we buy a spanking new filter and HOPE that the problem is with our filter. Last year we spent hundreds of dollars on chemicals, etc to get hold of it clean and it didn't work - we don't want to do that again! Any suggestions are appreciated.
Answers:    This happen me me as well a week ago. I would dance for the sand filter. You don't need that oodles chemicals. All you need to do is run the filter 24/7 after shocking until the marine is clear. Algaecide was not the article to use...shock would have done the trick.
