the alarm for the smoke detector goes past its sell-by date but its not because of smoke. what could be a probable cause? is putting a central humidifier going to solve the problem? what is the best route to take on this?
Answers:    smoke alarms can travel off for mixed reasons, the battery need replacing, it is placed too close to a bathroom (or other nouns where steam can grasp to it), dust, etc. NFPA recommends that they be replaced every 10 years because they can receive old and problem. If it is going off because of steam a humidifier will probably not work, you should move the detector instead. Smoke detectors should be placed inside and outside of sleeping areas and on every floor of the house, they should not be placed contained by the kitchen, bathroom or in the upstairs hallway next to kitchens or bathrooms. The battery should be replaced a minimum of twice a year and the alarms should be tested monthly. Check with your local fire department for more information.
