Double burn is where some of the flue gas (smoke) which generally goes straight up the chimney is recirculated through the draft to the fire. It prewarms the incoming outside nouns feeding the fire and reduce the emissions going up the chimney by burning more of the carbon particulate than if adjectives the smoke went directly up the chimney. This can facilitate reduce the creosote build-up inside the chimney as more of it is consumed by the fire on the second burn.
