We have a dropped ceiling beside high hat. We added more high hat and I took the plastic cover off the dimmer switch to paint. The switch get very hot when the lights are on (the high the switch the hotter). The wires going to the switch aren't hot so I replaced the 600W with a 1000W but its still getting hot.
Answers: What is the total wattage of the lamp on the dimmer? Very warm is common. 160 degrees F or smaller amount is fine.
because it's an old style rheostat dimmer. acquire an eletronic one.
