I have a 3000 sq ft home with two AC unit. One is a 3.5 ton and the other is 3 ton. The 3.5 works well and the 3 ton is the one I'm having problems next to lately. It works but it was taking a long time to cool. I thought the freon levels might be low so I call my warranty company, they sent out an AC guy. He found nothing wrong other than the coils needed cleaning. He charged me $250 to verbs the 3 ton unit. Since he has departed, the unit is even worse. It takes 2-3 hours a short time ago to cool down from 80 to 79 degrees. It's also constantly blowing while the other unit is modernized and can cool down from 80-74 in the same time span next to no problem. I called the warranty company and they are sending out the same those to re-examine it. I have a feeling he is going to find zilch wrong and will just argue that the heat outside (105-110) is what's making it not work okay or he will argue that the unit is too small. The 3.5 can cool down 80 to 74 in 3 hours, how can other part not cool 1 degree?
Answers:    Sounds like the compressor have a leaky seal; either the refrigerant is low or the compressor isn't up to snuff, and isn't pressurizing the system's high-side. I feel your simplistic line of reasoning is more than enough to explain your concerns to the warranty serviceman. Makes sense to me.
Maybe its frozen up from self on for too long? Do you have it on 'On' or "Auto'? Maybe if you let it rest and later try again it will work again. I wouldnt trust warrenty companies, all they are doing it protecting the manufacturer from have to shell out money for a new unti if it is truely broken. thermostat-1
