Why does the contactor switch on my outdoor nouns conditioner section (compressor) save dying/possible freon? I had a contactor that be bad soon after I moved...

I had a contactor that be bad soon after I moved surrounded by (maybe). I bought a contactor from the store and installed it. It did not work. I had an A/C guy come out and he said the contactor be bad and replaced it. A/C worked for a while. Then I have someone come back and replace the switch and saturate the freon that told me the switch was fruitless but they can also not work when it is low on freon and mine was. So immediately it was nearing the wind up of last summer and everything be fine for those last few weeks. Now I put on my A/C again, my upstairs A/C is fine my downstairs is not on again. I abhor to keep paying these folks for something that is wrong... can I crawl freon myself? Is there a mode to check for freon leaks? if you do enjoy an opinion of what it is please permit me know? if it isnt freon what else could cause a contactor to repetedly die?
first past its sell-by date if you keep on varying contactors thats not the problem you have a low voltage telecommunication heating up and shorting to your condenser second if you keep hold of on adding r-22 freon is a trade nickname then you enjoy a leaking evap coil 90% of the time thats where on earth your leak is bring back a new coil the across the world last around 10-14 years leak dont get better they attain worse

If the unit is over 10 years hoary, replace the system. Spending $1200 or more to repair an old system is crazy.
As refrigerant leak, so does oil. Repeatedly refill a system will eventually cause a compressor washout.
The contactor issue could be one or more of many things from loose electrical system somewhere in the system to voltage within the control leg being too hi or lo.
I use an electronic percolate detector to find refrigerant leaks, it works great.
Answers:    You would inevitability a refrigerant license to purchase the refrigerant and a set of guages to install it.

Next time you fill it own the guy check for leaks.
He will do this next to a spray bottle of soapy water and look for bubbles, this will indicate where on earth the leak is.
(If its already leak out you cant do this until its filled again.)
Have them spray the coil and lines, solder joint etc. to look for a leak.
Whats strange is you influence the upstairs is cooling normally. Are you sure at hand is cool air coming out of your upstairs vent?

It sounds like your refrigerant have leaked out again.
Need to hold them find the leak and be done beside it, insist they check for the leak not a moment ago fill it and resign from.
