Who can you check to see if you own power going to an electric switch?

You can buy a prob for checking for power. It looks similar to a screwdriver with light on the bring to a close of it. If the switch is hot the light will come on. Try Walmart for about $1.98. any hardware store. Just explain to sales person they will fix you up.

Good Luck
why not just buy a new switch for a couple of dollars, shut the power bad and then replace the switch. if that doesn't work then check the circuit breaker.
i individually would just shut the power off, remove the switch, attach the two wires together from the switch, consequently turn the power back on. if the light after works, replace the switch. if not something else is wrong and you'll need carrying out tests equipment. if you don't know what you're doing you should try to find someone who does.
all a switch is is a way to put a break between two wires.
have a sneaking suspicion that about it.
good luck to ya.
Answers:    Who? You can check with an electrician... But that will set you back slightly a few $$ for such a simple request...

It's also very easy to do yourself. Go to your local hardware store and purchase a circuit tester for a few dollars: a small bedside light bulb with two wire lead.

I suggest following the circuit tester's instructions, but essentially you will remove the switch cover, and test both screw terminals (one at a time) next to one lead and connect the other lead to conduit ground/neutral.

If the desk light goes on, you have power. If it does not, you *may* not own power. Other possibilities are faulty conduit grounding, and/or faulty colourless connections. Again, follow the provided instructions.
If you nean how afterwards just use a volt meter or a test lantern accross the terminals(with a light in the fixture) in good health u could buy a tick tester n if it lights up..there is power going throw it... check both sides
