Which insulation would you choose? Should I get double pane glass window or add insulation to attic?...
Should I get double pane glass window or add insulation to attic? I live in a one-story, built contained by 1988, concrete block home in hot dry climate- (100 degrees today)
The attic insulation be the spray in kind. Attic is really with the sole purpose a crawl space.
My windows are single pane and lot of people attain these dualpane with sun block. I only hold sunshades and they are old.
Replace the windows next to double pane. Make sure your insullation hasn't settled. If you buy the blowin insullation at Home Depot I think you can rent the blower for free or very little.
Windows.
They are your biggest heat gain. Single pane windows enjoy almost NO insulation value.
My experience is more with roast but the heat exchange works the same next to cooling. I got a flyer from my supplier that said for every 3 degrees of warmth difference between inside and outside the heat flow DOUBLES fhrough single pane windows.
That manner if the temperature goes up 10 degree the heat coming in through your window comes in 8 times faster! But heavy drapes and shades conduct yourself as insulation.
Windows are costly.
But I will say the blown in insulation, principally the paper or cellulose type will compact over time and not insulate as well. Although it is singular a crawl space you might be able to lay a layer of fiberglass insulation over the top of it. Is it vent? You could add an attic fan if it get very hot in within. Those are cheaper options than window but window will have the biggest effect.
Good Luck.
Answers: What is your budget? Even though you have blown insulation surrounded by the attic, you should roll some more up there... A total depth of 18 to 24 inches should be easy to complete...
If you are concerned with the price of windows, you can put reflective objects on the windows to redirect the sun's rays a bit... Double or triple pane chalice will work better than the reflective screen, but it costs more...
Both windows and insulation will assist your bills...
