When to slim down from 3/4 to 1/2 when running hose down lines?
I've other used 3/4.I guess it could increase pressure while sacrificing mass flow but I would never use 1/2 in residential work. simply buy a reducer from your local plumbing store, they are tremendously common.

If it's flow you are after then pocket the 3/4 as far as you can. No matter how smooth the inside of a pipe is there's still considerable friction in the pipe over distance. To over come that you entail pressure but that costs more to maintain so bigger pipes means more wet at a lower cost.
If it's a house you are piping up then higher pressures inhospitable surroundings more water. It doesn't realy matter on the cold side.On the hot side you want to use as much 1/2 as you can since it will acquire hot at the tap sooner than useing 3/4(though I did my whole house except the risers within 3/4 since it was easier to use the same size)
Answers: You reduce to 1/2 " when it is the this last nouns go to a sink ,tub or hose bibb. You won't lose pressure because your connection to sink or tub is reduced contained by that last connection to 3/8". You know, you own seen those little grey plastic connecting lines.
